Kentucky crews searching for woman swept away in the Tennessee River

Crews said the woman is presumed to be dead after she was swept away into the Tennessee River near Calvert City Friday night.

CALVERT CITY, Ky. — Recovery crews are searching for the body of a woman who was swept away into the Tennessee River in Western Kentucky.

Curt Curner with the Marshall County Rescue Squad said Brandy Osborne, 37, came to the Wepfer Marine Friday night from Illinois to visit a friend. He said she didn't think the water was that deep and tried to walk to her friend's boat before she was swept away into the Tennessee River near Calvert City.

Rescue squads from Marshall, Lyon and Trigg County searched the river in hopes of finding the missing woman. They haven't found her yet, and said their operation is no longer a rescue and is now a recovery.

Multiple agencies and approximately 50 people have spent the last two days utilizing boats with sonars, drags, drones and various K-9 teams on and off the water.

"We just try to tell people, 'Stay out of the flood waters. Don't drive in the flood waters.' You don't know what's underneath them, and it doesn't take very much water to knock you off your feet, you know, and sweep you away. This is a prime example of that scenario right now that we're dealing with," Curt Curtner with the Marshall County Rescue Squad said.

For now, he hopes her family can find comfort as best as they can.
